Dieting on the Brain? Well, Hallelujah!

My wife and I are both repenting over holiday excesses and have vowed in this new year to each lose X number of pounds. A friend of mine advised us never make dieting (and/or exercise) a New Year’s resolution, but rather weight wait until later in the month so it won’t seem like a New Year’s resolution. (Something about the chances being greater to actually follow through on achieving our goals. It’s a psychological thing.)

Fat man at frigApparently, many overweight souls never heard that advice and made dieting a resolution, at least if Internet search data is any indicator. And the diet that’s come out on top? No, not the infamous “cabbage” diet, South Beach, Sugar Busters or even Atkins. This year, it’s the “Hallelujah” diet, according to Hitwise, which tracks such things. Not only that, searches for “diet” is up 32% this year over last.

It’s interesting to me that the Hallelujah diet ranked number one, considering it’s Biblically-based, according to what I’ve been able to discern. Are there that many fat Christians, or is it that word-of-mouth just ignited interest? Also, if I were to adhere to this diet that I would have to stop eating shellfish or pork?!

While the notion of beginning a diet and exercise routine causes me to say words quite the opposite of “hallelujah,” the pounds still have to be shed. Any encouragement you’d care to offer would be more than appreciated. And, if you’re in the same boat, feel free to commiserate. Just think of this post as your “confessional.”
