The Computer Nerd in Marketing.
I get a kick out of the fact that the computer nerd has hit the mainstream as a marketing tool. Toyota uses the World of Warcraft as a setting for a truck commercial. It’s very clear what generation they are reaching out to by using an environment that a specific age group and generation is associated with. I also think it’s interesting how Toyota has chosen not to feature a hybrid or other tech friendly vehicle. Although I suppose it’s less dramatic to remove the heart of a dragon using an Prius.
Vodafone also uses the computer nerd to show the benefits of the aircard. Finally a chance for the nerds to come out of hiding in their homes where they need to exist to remain connected. It speaks to the fact that being constantly connected is not just for the power business user anymore.
