Hallmark Promoting Teen Sex? We Report. You Decide
AdFreak is blogging about a Hallmark greeting card that at least one person claims promotes teen sex.
The card, pictured at right, says, “Pardon me … care for some liquid clothes remover?” One mother of a teen-aged girl says Hallmark is “irresponsible” in deciding to create the card. “I have an 18-year-old daughter and I would just die if someone gave this to her,” she said.
The mom, Cyndi Desrosiers, voiced her complaint to the local Hallmark store where she saw the card and they removed the cards from the store shelves. Now, she is taking a more aggressive stance and starting an e-mail campaign urging others to take similar action with stores in their area.
AdFreak says that the card makes no reference to teens and probably is directed toward the young adult market. While that may be true, I can easily see how a teenage guy with ulterior motives in mind would find this card humorous and purchase it. But that’s just me.
What do you think? Did the mom overreact? Does the card promote teenage promiscuity?
PS: BTW, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the card go to combat AIDS in Africa. A little paradoxical, don’t you think?

Gosh, if the card isn’t in a special teen section or otherwise aimed at teens, I don’t see the problem. I don’t think a card’s gonna make a teen have sex. But that’s just my opinion. Great post–best, Kay
