Green With Envy
Lately it seems that “green” has become THE marketer’s buzzword. With all of the hype surrounding “going green” it can be difficult to tell who is truly taking the right steps to protect and renew the environment and who is simply “greenwashing” their consumers.
There are loads of ways that companies can help the environment:
- using organic products
- changing their packaging to something more environmentally friendly
- offering products that allow consumers to conserve energy or offering alternative energy sourced solutions (sun, wind)
The important thing to remember is that just because a companies marketing suggests that it is a “green” company/product doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.

Enter the Sustainable Living Roadshow. A truly off-the-grid educational/entertaining tour bringing sustainability solutions for communities –> families –> individuals. With 10 tour stops planned for Fall ‘08, the SLR crew plans to hold four-day stops in each city. To ensure their message is received by a diverse crowd, the tour will hit K-12 schools and colleges on Thursday and Fridays each week and open up the festival to everyone on Saturday and Sundays.
This is NOT your average experiential marketing tour. The SLR brings workshops, entertainers (performing on a solar powered stage), the Conscious Carnival, the Green Marketplace and the crew brings all of the components in their bio-fueled tour bus caravan.
Consumer, agencies and brands should keep their eyes on this tour, as it is one tour that can likely NOT be duplicated. This is one team that really practices the message that they are sharing — which is rare these days.
My final two cents: I have it on good authority that there are still a few spots left for potential sponsors so: Apple, Google, Facebook, MySpace if you are looking for a way to reach new generations of people and to make a difference I would recommend checking out the SLR website and request more information.
