Is Twitter Twittering Away?

twitter

Usually you hear about new or recently developed social applications being all the rage and surrounded by lots of buzz, and then the brand trickles down to the average Joe and Jane as indispensible at some point.

However, Twitter is not enjoying this kind of success.

The site frequently has been riddled with technical problems, which has third-party developers abandoning ship. The developer community is predicting that once developers go, users won’t be far behind.

This may not shake and break the brand of a social app that is indispensible, but Twitter seems superfluous–you can do the same things it does for you…

Express yourself! (By removing parts of your expression)

So last week I went to a routine dermatologist appointment. No super big deal, I just had some spots for her to check out and that was that. Lately though, I’ve noticed some lines on my forehead. Granted, I’m only 21 but I just wanted some helpful hints to decrease the lines for when I’m older. Naturally I was waiting for my doctor to suggest maybe sunscreen, some moisturizer, the usual OTC items or tell me I was completely crazy. The first thing out of her mouth –”BOTOX! I’ll be right back with a quote. Honestly I thought it would be…

American Apparel turns American Ap-perv-el

AADovA great SuperNews creation, by our favorites at CurrentTV, shows a heart warming look into the life of an AA t-shirt and the philosophy behind the largest clothing manufacturer in the United States. And by heart warming, I mean anything but that. (coughcoughTHANKSDOVcough) Check out the video here.

Die neue Britney Spears

Guess what the German edition of Vanity Fair is calling Disney’s teen darling Miley Cyrus (aka, Hannah Montana) following her controversial photo shoot and feature for the magazine - the new Britney Spears. Not a moniker I’d want my 15 old daughter saddled with, but one that seems befitting considering the nature of some of those photos. (And it’s not the first time such controversy has brewed either.)

The 15-year-old actress was featured in a two-page spread for Vanity Fair and was photographed by acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz wearing nothing more than a blanket wrapped around her bare chest. What makes this even worse is that her father Billy Ray was not…

Web’s iconic brand sizzles as Facebook founder deals with journalist at SXSWi

Guests arrived early at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin on Sunday to see journalist Sarah Lacy from BusinessWeek interview Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg stymied Lacy. He’s not exactly the type of guy who expounds at length or who unexpectedly tosses out corporate secrets. Watching part of the interview, I realized Zuckerberg and Lacy really weren’t a very good fit. Sometimes, interviewee and subject mesh like peanut butter and jelly. At the SXSWi session, these two meshed like peaches on a hot dog.

$45 Billion for Yahoo!

Friday, February 1, Microsoft made an unsolicited $44.6 billion bid for Yahoo. This deal has the potential to upset rival Google in the competitive and microsoft_yahoo_070504_ms.jpglucrative market of Internet search.

The deal, which represents about a 62 percent premium above where Yahoo stock closed on Thursday, would pay shareholders $31 a share. Yahoo’s closing stock on Thursday, Jan. 31 was $19.18 a share.

“We believe our combination will deliver superior value to our respective shareholders and better choice and innovation to our customers and industry partners,” said Steven A. Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive.

Good with the Bad?

Rosie O’Donnell and MSNBC have reportedly been in talks to bring in the comedian turned actress turned talk show host into their 9 pm prime time slot. Recently, O’Donnell made countless headlines for a ‘feud’ with Donald Trump and several comments she made during her short stint as a co-host of the View.

With all of the negative publicity she received in the past year, is this move by MSNBC, who have just now begun to find their stride in the ratings war, wise for their brand image? Is hurting your reputation and giving fodder to your opposition worth the reward of…

Publicity Stunt - Celebrity Marketing Falls Flat

I was seriously trying to refrain from writing about OJ Simpson, but the media circus surrounding his newest fiasco is bordering on disturbing. Has the publicity stunt replaced good old fashion public relations?

With Paris in and out of jail, Lindsey on and off of coke, and Britney in and out of her mind, the marketing of celebrities seems to be approaching a new low. Have we nothing more constructive to do than to watch and be intrigued by these ordinary people doing extra ordinarily stupid things? There’s a war going on people!!! Diversionary tactic anyone?!? But, I digress.

Seems to me…

Cracks in the brand: How the internet is changing everything.

In lieu of the weekly post I was to write, I invite you all to read this Public Relations piece about my former agency.

What is interesting about the article, aside from a real dearth of reporting (Zimmerman spends millions on ads purchased in the Miami Herald every year,) is the comments section at the end of the article.

If you’re looking for summary judgement regarding my feelings regarding Zimmerman Advertising, that’s not the place of this blog. Like everything else, Zimmerman has its strengths and weaknesses. It is all in what you make of it, no?

What I find fascinating is that the…

Kanye vs. 50… Bonafide Rivalry or Marketing Ploy?

Today, on the sixth anniversary of the worst act of “terror” on American soil, I find myself preoccupied with the record sales of two of Hip-Hop’s most 50 Cent v. K. Westnotable artists. With both Curtis - Cent and GraduationWest, released on the same day, once again the record executes have pitted two Hip-Hop brands against one another in an attempt to boost sales. Ingenious!

What better way to tap into the tightly clenched wallets of the masses use to illegal downloads and bootlegged CD’s. Play up the David versus Goliath saga and watch the dollars roll in. This strategy has proven true in the past,…
