Microsoft’s PC is “Perpetually Connecting”

Here’s the extended version of the second ad to roll out in the heavily anticipated Crispin Porter + Bogusky campaign to re-brand Microsoft.

As I suspected, the off-beat first ad, Shoe Circus was just an introduction to the storyline. In this New Family ad, you really start to see the direction Crispin takes in their re-branding efforts.

According to the ad, Bill Gates and Microsoft have “connected a BILLION people,” but have still managed to fall out of touch.

They seek to remedy that…

I think this second ad may quiet some of the critics. Don’t you agree?

Crispin Rolls Out First Microsoft Ad

Recall my blog back in March of this year, “CP + B Slated to Combat Microsoft’s Humiliation” where Microsoft announced that my former employer, Crispin Porter + Bogusky of Miami and Denver landed the $300 million account to restore the Windows brand.

Here is one of the first ads rolled out this week during the NFL opening night. The ad stars Comedian, Jerry Seinfeld and Microsoft Corp. Chairman, Bill Gates.

Crispin is known for their unconventional creative strategies, where viral marketing and the buzz surrounding their innovative concepts propel their campaigns into the limelight.

This is the first of what I’m expecting to be several…

Trend Watch: Sex and the City - Get Carried Away

sex-and.jpgsex-and.jpgsex-and.jpgsex-and.jpgCourtesy of an advanced screening of the highly anticipated movie, Sex and the City: Get Carried Away, I bring you this trend watch.

This summer’s sure-to-be BLOCKBUSTER hit does not disappoint. For Sex and the City fans, it is a must see.

Not only does the storyline pick-up right where the HBO series left off and all loose ends thoroughly addressed, but to the glee of this marketer, the product placement is SEAMLESSLY infused into the plot of the flick.

Sex and the City has always been known to drive trends, whether it’s the spike in the sale of Jimmy Choo’s, Manolo Blahnik’s or Cosmopolitans,…

Hip-Hop and Strategic Marketing Converge

LONG have I waited for the place where urban music, advertising and artist relations converge.

With the creation of Translation Advertising, the brainchild of Hip-hop and business mogul Jay-Z, 38, and entrepreneur Steve Stoute, 37, this fantasy is finally realized.

Translation Advertising will be a part of Translation Consultation and Brand Imaging which last year Stoute sold to Interpublic, the third largest agency company, for an estimated 15 million.

Interpublic has a 49 percent stake in Translation Advertising while Stoute and Jay-Z maintain 51 percent.

According to a NY Times article, the Interpublic venture is indicative of the intensifying interest on Madison Avenue in…

Crispin Scores Microsoft Account

Statement from Microsoft: “After a thorough review of several creative and strategic advertising agencies, Microsoft has selected Crispin Porter & Bogusky as our creative partner for an upcoming consumer marketing campaign,” It read.  “Crispin was chosen based on their strategic approach, the strength of their creative ideas and the passionate and diverse team of people at the agency.”

Specs:

  • *It’s estimated that spending on the account is $300 million or more.  *Microsoft spent almost $1 billion on measured and unmeasured marketing in the U.S. alone for 2006
  • *Publicis Groupe’s Fallon was the other finalist in the pitch.
  • *Other competitors previously eliminated - incumbent Interpublic Group…

Commercialization of the Holidays

commercialization.jpgIs it me, or has the commercialization of the Holidays made for some lazy marketing efforts?

I mean there is so much traffic heading into the mall you’d think that they were giving something away for free. News flash folks - that cashmere Banana Republic sweater is still $175 with no reduction in sight.

And then there’s Best Buys. With nary a piece of printed marketing material, swarms of Black Friday buyers flock to make purchases. While for one weak moment I was tempted to stand in line at 3 a.m. at my local Best Buys, the menacing stares of thousands…
