Found these videos on Youtube. A fascinating look on how the logo was designed and how the brand evolved.

The First Family has now been among the most important people to safeguard in the U.S. today and the secret service has assigned them nicknames, all starting with the letter R.
Mr. Obama will be known as “Renegade” (move over, Lorenzo Lamas). Michelle, a woman of many talents, will be referred to as “Renaissance.” Malia Obama’s name will be “Radiance,” while little sister Sasha’s will be “Rosebud.”
So if you see these buzz words gaining some popularity in the coming months, you will know that it all has something to do with the Obama’s triumph as they prepare to take over the…
I didn’t want to do another political post. Really I didn’t. It’s just that in recent days, Politics has been
Everything. (Or is it ‘Everything has been Politics’?) Regardless, I promise this will be my last political post for awhile, unless there is something political that just SCREAMS to be blogged about.
Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States. Here’s hoping his presidency is a prosperous one for our country. However, if it is, then he will have to re-invent himself in order to run again in 2012. His brand this time around was that he wanted to…
Now that the best marketer has won our election, it will be interesting to see how this “underdog” brand evolves during the presidency. Starting in January, hope will have to materialize into programs. And “Yes we can” will have to become “we did that.” With all the uphill battles that lie in wait, I’m wondering if this brand won’t soon have a new jingle. If it does, I imagine it go something like this:
‘My bologna has a strange name,
it’s O-B-A-M-A.
My bologna has another name,
it’s B-I-D-E-N.
Oh, I don’t like to be one of those nay-says
But if you ask me “why?” I’ll say…
because…
All it takes is a small portion or image on any video game and you can safely say you are advertising. “Obama for President” in a video game? Now you would say that would be too much but if you can get the nod and attention of additional votes for people who do not read the papers or watch normal television, you would have to agree that such a move is wise in tapping more votes outside the various populations of each region.
The virtual world within the Xbox 360 racing game “Burnout Paradise” features an Obama for President billboard —…
It seems not a day goes by that the Obama campaign has something to say about someone or something that’s really not news. In a recent breaking story, Obama has announced to the press that he’s chosen a
running mate. BUT, he’s not telling. Instead, he’s going to be texting the chosen ones before an official announcement is made.
Earlier this month, Obama’s camp was complaining about not being able to advertise at gas stations and accusing McCain of being part of this ploy. Nevermind that Gas Station TV has a policy of not accepting ANY political advertising, not even McCain’s.
This tactic…
When it came to Avis, they made a wise choice by admitting that they weren’t the best. But they turned this negative into a positive. They want to be number one so they responded by saying “We try harder.”![]()
Today, it seems the Republican presidential nominee is taking a page from the Avis case study. The Democratic nominee’s activities have garnered a ton of attention from the media for quite some time as if his visits overseas were going to establish any new policies or relationships. To counter this, McCain’s latest commercial, called Celeb Ad, compares Obama’s popularity to shallow celebrities…
The Grand Old Party has created a parody of Facebook called BarackBook to make certain points against Senator Obama. The Obama campaign has taken advantage of digital media like no other political campaing in history. They have used the internet to their advantage and done it rather well, especially in raising funds. But, digital technolgy works both ways. Obama has had trouble with internet rumors. Around 11% of Americans polled, believe that he is Muslim. The opposition is using the net to their advantage as well. They are using a Facebook-like interface to highlight Obama’s relationships with shady “friends” like Bill…
As we are thrust into this political season, it is hard not to take note of the grandiouse marketing moves each political party makes as they vie to be top dog. Casual observers can easily take note of the machine at work grinding out ads for radio, TV, outdoor, door-to-door, and telephone. Ever more now the web has created a new way of disseminating the brand message, solidifying it in time as a historical record. This week in US politics, the two presidential candidates were both caught flipping positions on previously stated
positions. In the business world, we know it is…
As Sens. Obama and McCain contemplate their choices for VP, speculation abounds to who will be the eventual picks. Even as the role of the VP becomes a more prominent one, the person chosen still has to paint a picture that voters
can relate to and balance the potential negatives of the presidential candidate. So the marketing choices that these two campaigns face are obvious. Senator Obama faces skepticism on multiple fronts including his age, lack of experience, and his race. We, as marketing observers, can be assured that the his top VP candidates are most likely experienced, white males with some gray hair. Senator McCain must overcome…
A person is a brand too. Take a look inside the workings of Sender, LLC, the firm behind the Obama logo. Sender’s principal came from DesignKitchen, a top brand identity firm. Influenced by corporate branding projects, this project deserved a mark that could truly stand alone; this is important for a potential president.
The key to success with a logo for a presidential candidate is to create something that is not complicated. The logo has to be designed around the name. You find a lettering—a typeface for a logotype. You try to create unique elements around the name, which reinforces the…
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton represent a changing of the guard in presidential politics. Yet, the concept of a black American and a woman running for the highest office in the nation is still novel to some. Look around. This is a historic moment. Regardless of who wins the primaries, politics will be a little bit different from now on. This important moment was made possible in part by the audacity of individuals who personified the change they sought. Mavericks have a natural tendency to stand out from the crowd. But when they inspire others who in turn inspire others,…
The Pennsylvania primary is taking way too long. I usually flip through the cable news channels to get different perspectives, but lately there has been a lot of the same old thing. So I thought I’d try something a little different. I went to Wefeelfine.org to find out exactly how Pennsylvanians feel. I’m a fan of the site. It’s goes well with ADD. Wefeelfine searches through blog postings and finds instances of people expressing their feelings. It finds “i feel” statements and serves them up in format that search engines can only dream of. So how do people in Pennsylvania feel?…
